The oil and gas sector operates in a challenging environment with (a) cyclical & volatile prices and (b) high safety and environmental protection standards which goes down to multiple levels of the suppliers and sub-suppliers chain. Like most other asset-intensive industries, many services and equipment purchases currently are outsourced to a variety of providers, which results in complexity and a fragmented supplier base. Building strategic supplier relationships is increasingly key to contain costs, mitigate risks, increase productivity. Like auto and airspace sectors, the trend in oil and gas is to build suppliers ecosystems with aligned interests and clear accountabilities. These supplier ecosystems are complex set of inter-related contracts.
